Nail colour of the week

OPI Plugged in Plum. I always paint my nails on a Sunday evening to set me up for the week and I love this purple which reminds me of an 80s youth club disco and therefore is fabulous. I bought this for my hen night (don't ask me how I remember these things, I just do) and I don't wear it often as it's quite bright and I have to be in the mood. But's the sun was shining today and I decided I need a little disco in my life.

I was reading an article this week on how long one should keep make up. It said throw nail varnish out after 18 months. Wait, WHAT? That's insane.I can only assume it was sponsored by a nail varnish company. I got married nearly seven years ago and this baby is still as perfect as the day I bought it. I have nail varnish older than seven years and all is well. So that annoyed me and I ignored all the other 'advice' it gave too!

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Micellar Shampoo

I read about this in three separate places in the space of a week in which there was much raving, and I decided I needed to try it with the conditioner. It protects colour and is very gentle. You can Google micellar, I am not going to try and explain it.

Anyway, it's really good. Nice and foamy despite no sulphates and rinses out very easily. It leaves my hair very bouncy. Forgive the cliches but I can't think how else to describe it, bouncy and light. It's my new favourite hair product. I highly recommend it if you want hair with some ooof. Yeah, I am never going to become a hair journalist.

New Spring make-up goodies

Today the sun was out and it was warm (ish). I went out without a coat. YES! Spring is in the air. I am still on my spending-ban but let me show you some of the lovely products I would totally consider if I could.

First up, YSL joy:

Lancome Blush and Highlighter cushion:

 Bobbi Brown Art Stick:

I don't know if this is new to Chanel but this nail colour is called Espadrilles.
It's enough to make you want to book a holiday and pack nothing but bikinis and nail polish!

Waitrose Ginger & Clementine Bath Foam

£1.50 in the Ocado order and you get masses of orangey bubbles. It's my bargain of the month. I add a few drops of essential oil and a more divine bubble bath you'd be hard to find. There are several other flavours too but I've not sampled them. Lime and Basil sounds good for Summer.

Note: I only ordered this when I had, literally run out of bubble bath. I am sort of sticking to my resolution.

Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Serum

Regular readers know I've yet to find my perfect serum and I have tried many. Yes, the Chanel one was perfect but too expensive.

Breaking news... I think I've found it. I bought this Clinique Turnaround Serum in New York in January and it's a winner. It sinks in, no greasiness but feels nourishing and it doesn't bobble when you apply make up. I have just ordered another bottle. It's £38 for 30ml. It's expensive but it's not Chanel-expensive. The problem with serums is I seem to race through them really quickly. This one lasted a month. £38 a month isn't cheap I know but I am getting bored with trying so many. This works and that's that. For now.

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick

I think it's time to talk more about these because I love them. They are easy to work with and last all day long.

Back in December, I bought one in Goldstone and it's transformed my mornings. Really, it has. It's a shimmery nude that you can wear under any eye liner. I would show you the colour but the BB site is being weird. I pop it on and then add either one of my other sticks which I have in Bark and Shadow. Both of which are gorgeous. Smudge a bit with your finger. Done.

Add your mascara and you're good to go. Easy peasy. They are also great for travelling since you need no brushes to use them. I find myself yearning for more but we all know I am not buying any more make-up for a while so I am making do. Yes, first world problems, I am making do with my three sticks, five gel eyeliners and numerous other eye liners in my collection.

For days when I feel more patient, I use a gel eyeliner. I adore these as well. My newest favourite is Espresso Ink. It's not too dark and perfect for work.

You need the brush to go with and it's a bit more of an effort but it really does last until you take it off.

How I love Bobbi Brown. Heartbroken that she has sold the business but excited to see what she does next.

M&S Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream

My resolution was going so well. I have been to Terminal 5 twice since I wrote it and bought nothing. I managed a trip to New York and stuck to it. What has broken me? Marks & Spencer, that's what!

I can hardly believe it either. India Knight wrote about how wondrous this night cream is. I resisted for three whole weeks (it was sold out, it was easy to resist) and then I thought, no, I have to try it.  Let me outline my defence: I had no other night creams, only night oils. A vital difference I think we can all agree? It's £22. It's not exactly breaking the bank now is it? I haven't broken my resolution anywhere else and I now consider myself back on the wagon.

Having got that out of the way, let's discuss this. It's a rich cream, feels lovely, sinks in well. It's good but I don't think it's ground breaking. It's very nice, it's an excellent price and I do love a rich cream. If your skin is on the oilier side, I don't think you'll get on with it. I am not sure I'd buy it again, it's not as good as my beloved L'Oreal cream. It's sold out again now but I've seen it in store.

Today I went to the Kings Road, mooched around Peter Jones beauty hall, visited Space NK and walked past MAC. I remained strong and resolute. I bought nothing. Not even the Diptique special edition candle which is oh so pretty. I am very proud of myself.

Nail colour of the week

We continue to enjoy the Christmas nail varnish gift bonanza with this perfect red. My sister bought me this and it's a total winner.

It is the red to end all reds. I have tried so many red nail colours and find myself sick of them after a day or two. But this is perfection. I find myself yearning for it when I have another colour on my nails. It's a perfect, shiny red. As always with YSL, it's a doddle to put on. If you only have one red nail varnish, then make it this one.

Let's talk about feet

As I explained yesterday, I visited Sephora on my New York trip. Not doing so is unthinkable. However, I am on a skincare ban. I had to be creative to not break it.

I suffer greatly from very dry feet. I have pedicures throughout winter because I can't bear for my feet to get flaky. Also, why not have pedicures in winter? It's grim enough without having pretty feet to look at in the bath.

As I browsed Sephora, I stumbled across these sock masks. Ooooh. $6 each ($5 on the site - shows how expensive NYC is!) and you pop them on your feet and relax for 20 mins. These are amazing, my feet were baby smooth afterwards. I immediately rushed back and bought five more of them. I used the almond one but I bought the lavender one as well.

I also bought this foot file. I have a big foot file but it's a pain to take when I travel. This is dinky sized, a bargain at $12 and it buffs beautifully. I used this before applying my sock masks.
I highly recommend the sock masks. I lay in my hotel room with these babies on my feet and it was deeply relaxing. You could go wild and put a sheet mask on at the same time and hope nobody walks in!
